Dell Inspiron 15R (5520 / 7520) Heatsink Removal and Installation

In this Dell laptop tutorial we are going to show you how to install and replace the Heatsink on your Dell Inspiron 15R (5520 / 7520) laptop. Installation and Removal Instructions

Slide the latches over and lift the battery out.
Step 1
Slide the latches over and lift the battery out.
Loosen the screws and remove the access door.

Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.

Loosen the screws and remove the access door.
Step 3
Remove the optical drive screw.
Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.
Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.
Using the tab, slide the hard drive out of the laptop.

Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.
Step 4
Remove the hard drive screws.
Using the tab, slide the hard drive out of the laptop.
Using the tab, slide the hard drive out of the laptop. Remove the hard drive screws.
Separate the clips and remove the second memory stick.

Using the tab, slide the hard drive out of the laptop.
Step 5
Separate the clips and remove the memory stick.

Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the base(Dell Latitude D830 cpu fan).

Separate the clips and remove the second memory stick.
Step 6
Remove the 6 screws at the top of the base.
Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the base.
Remove the 2 screws under the DVD optical drive.
Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the base. Remove the 2 screws under the DVD optical drive.Remove the 6 screws at the top of the base.
Using a small flathead screwdriver, press in the 4 keyboard latches and lift the keyboard up.

Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the base.
Step 7
Turn the laptop over and open it up.
Using a small flathead screwdriver, press in the 4 keyboard latches and lift the keyboard up.
Unplug the keyboard cable.
Using a small flathead screwdriver, press in the 4 keyboard latches and lift the keyboard up. Unplug the keyboard cable.
Unplug the 3 palmrest cables.

Using a small flathead screwdriver, press in the 4 keyboard latches and lift the keyboard up.
Step 8
Remove the top palmrest screws.
Unplug the 3 palmrest cables.
Unplug the 3 palmrest cables. Remove the top palmrest screws.
Unplug the cable under the palmrest.

Unplug the 3 palmrest cables.
Step 9
Using a scribe or a flathead screwdriver, separate the palmrest from the laptop base.
Unplug the cable under the palmrest.
Unplug the cable under the palmrest. Using a scribe or a flathead screwdriver, separate the palmrest from the laptop base.
Remove the DC jack bracket.

Unplug the cable under the palmrest.
Step 10
Remove the DC jack bracket screws.
Remove the DC jack bracket.
Unplug the DC jack cable & remove the DC jack.
Remove the DC jack bracket.Unplug the DC jack cable & remove the DC jack.
Remove the fan from the laptop.

Remove the DC jack bracket.
Step 11
Unplug the fan cable.
Remove the fan from the laptop.
Unplug the speaker cable.

Remove the fan from the laptop.
Step 12
Unplug the SD card reader cable.
Unplug the speaker cable.
Unplug the speaker cable. Unplug the SD card reader cable.
Remove the motherboard.

Unplug the speaker cable.
Step 13
Remove the motherboard screws.
Remove the motherboard.
Remove the heatsink screws.

Remove the motherboard.
Step 14
Turn the motherboard over.
Remove the heatsink screws.
Remove the heatsink(Dell Precision M65 cpu cooling fan).
Installation note 2: Tighten the heatsink screws in the order listed on the heatsink.

Remove the heatsink screws.
Step 15
Installation note 1: Make sure to replace thermal compound or thermal pads on the CPU and heatsink.
